What can we do about the drought? Educate ourselves about local water supply and take action  Join us at the upcoming North Santa Monica Bay Watershed Community meeting to hear from speakers who are offering real solutions.

• Erik Ringelberg is the California Director of the Freshwater Trust; Eril is on at 3:00 p.m. The Freshwater Trust has created a mapping program called BasinScout that layers in multiple sets of mapping information such as historic groundwater, current groundwater, soiltypes, an overview of the hyrdology of the watershed, land use, farming uses and comes up with specific spots where changing land use / agricultural uses can immediately help recharge groundwater on the largest scale. They're working in the Sacramento River watershed, the Scott River watershed and elsewhere and, since all of our water is imported water, their work to recharge groundwater and thus to improve streamflow supports ... all of us.
• Mike Garcia of Enviroscape L.A. has been installing cisterns that capture rainwater and creating award-winning landscapes that use that captured rainwater. Be prepared to be inspired to redo your garden. Recognize that 70% of our precious imported drinking water goes to lanscaping, so doing it Mike's way can reduce the amount of imported water we need by ... half.
• Douglas Krauss, Environmental Programs Manager from City of Hermosa Beach is going to share with us Hermosa Beach's innovative approach to stormwater management, which is now moving towards a house-by-house approach, many of those houses using cisterns that becoem a source for irrigation for gardens.
