Beacon Box located at Reyes Adobe Park
31400 Rainbow Crest Dr. Agoura Hills, CA 91301

The City was awarded a grant from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy to expand emergency preparedness with a software known as FlameMapper. FlameMapper is a GIS-based technology that integrates advanced wildfire data with risk variables, to create real-time feedback on the existing location and size of an active wildfire, and assist in projecting its path of travel.

Predicting where a fire will travel, can be a vital source for emergency responders to strategize how to approach a situation, and how to plan for mass evacuations.

Fire-resistant Beacon Boxes will be strategically placed throughout the City that contain laminated maps that can be used by mutual aid public safety personnel. During the Woolsey Fire, concerns were raised by first responders about not being familiar with the location of water resources and neighborhood road networks, which can cost valuable time when battling a fire.  The Beacon Boxes are meant to address this concern by creating specific known points where this sort of information is quickly available. Information on the Beacon Box maps includes locations of hydrants, swimming pools, egress areas, and safe refuge areas, as well as what areas are of the highest risk to burn first.

In response to the Woolsey Fire, Malibu has Beacon Boxes around their City as well.

This is being provided after discussions with/or coordination with Los Angeles County Fire.
