Climate Action and Adaptation Plan
The City’s first Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) was adopted by the Agoura Hills City Council on April 27, 2022.
What is the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan?
The CAAP is a collection of data and tools that help the City address climate change issues that are most relevant to our community, such as drought and wildfire. The CAAP does this by:
• Listing direct actions the City can take to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which will directly help lessen the severity of these climate change impacts (EPA).
• Providing a risk and vulnerability assessment - a report that breaks down what extreme weather events may impact our community and in what ways. Knowing these potential threats in advance lets the City take actions that can lessen the harm done by these events and improve recovery efforts afterward.
Having a customized CAAP allows the City to create GHG reduction strategies that fit the character of the community. The strategies outlined in the CAAP also have additional benefits for our community, including:
Reducing GHG Emissions
The CAAP reports on how much GHGs have been released from our community and what our reduction targets should be based on state requirements. Our target is to release 37% less GHGs than we did in 2018 – that means stopping the equivalent of 36,402 Metric Tons of CO2 (MTCO2e) from being released into the atmosphere by 2030. This will also help us stay on track to achieve the statewide goal of being carbon-neutral by 2045.
Our CAAP outlines 9 goals, each with one or more measures that direct the City to reducing GHG emissions. Learn how you can help us reach our GHG reduction targets.
