Goal 7

Goal 7: Decrease GHG Emissions by Reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled

In 2018, Agoura Hills’ total GHG emissions were 266,891 Metric Tons CO2e, and transportation makes up 73% of that amount. Reducing how often we rely on fossil fuel modes of transportation can make the largest impact on lowering our emissions. This can be done with switching to electric vehicles, but it’s also beneficial to focus on reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT), which counts how many miles any kind of vehicle has traveled. Even after more people switch to electric vehicles (EVs), it will still be important to reduce VMT to lessen traffic congestion and emissions that come from vehicle production (UC Davis).

Get Involved!

  • Find out if an EV is right for you. Check out The Community Environmental Council’s Electric Vehicles 101 Workshop for information and resources about switching to an electric vehicle.
  • Check for incentives and rebates! Electricforall.org has an incentives search tool to make shopping for an EV easy. SoCal Edison also has a Pre-Owned Electric Vehicle Rebate, along with rebates for new car purchases.
  • Already have an EV? Don’t forget your HOV pass! The California Department of Motor Vehicles gives Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) decals to vehicles that meet specified emissions standards – these cars can then use the HOV/Carpool lane even if they only have one person. Check out the list of pre-approved vehicles.
  • Explore the City’s Master Bike Plan. This plan proposes a vision for a diverse network of interconnected bicycle corridors, support facilities, and programs that aim to link local and regional destinations and make biking more practical and desirable for a broader range of people (City of Agoura Hill Bicycle Master Plan).
