Goal 5: Increase Energy Efficiency through Water Efficiency
About 20% of our state’s energy consumption is associated with water use, because energy is used at every stage of treating and transporting water to/from our homes and businesses (Yale Climate Connections). Cutting down on water use helps us conserve a natural resource and directly leads to reducing GHG emissions. To lead by example, The City has recently partnered with the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to reduce our water consumption by 25%.
Get Involved!
- Check for leaks. Household leaks wastes water and energy, and costs you money. The Los Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) has a quick guide on checking your house for leaks and reading your water meter.
- Get a free water efficiency kit! SoCal Gas customers can order a free water efficiency kit that includes a low-flow showerhead and three faucet aerators.
- Take advantage of free recycled water. The LVMWD is offering free recycled water for residents to water their trees, shrubs, gardens, and lawns.
- Search for rebates on water efficient home appliances. SoCal Water Smart can help you find indoor and outdoor products that qualify for rebates, including high-efficiency washing machines, toilets, and rain barrels.
- Commercial rebates are available, too! SoCal Water Smart can help you find rebates on appliances, turf replacement, and retrofitting.
